When should you climb Kilimanjaro?

Kilimanjaro can be climbed throughout the year, but the driest and most popular periods are generally January to early March and June to October. Clearer weather improves views and trail comfort, while quieter months may appeal to Reisende who prefer fewer climbers.

  • ?Great for private climbs

June to October

The most popular climbing season with drier trails and strong travel demand.

  • ?Dry season
  • ?Excellent safari combination

Rainy months

April, May, and parts of November can bring more rain, mud, clouds, and lower visibility.

  • ?Quieter trails
  • ?Requires proper rain gear

Altitude and safety

Go slowly, acclimatize well, and listen to your guide

Altitude preparation

Altitude is the main challenge on Kilimanjaro. A slower pace, longer route, enough water, warm clothing, rest, and honest communication with your guide all help improve comfort and safety.

  • ?Choose 6 to 8 Tage instead of rushing the climb
  • ?Walk slowly from the first day - pole pole
  • ?Report headaches, nausea, dizziness, or unusual fatigue

Training before arrival

You do not need to be a professional athlete, but you should prepare with regular walking, hiking, stair climbing, light strength work, and long-distance endurance training before your trip.

  • ?Practice hiking with the boots you will use
  • ?Train with a small daypack
  • ?Build stamina gradually before travel
